East of England Liturgical Music Course (for choral singers) 4th Aug to 10th Aug

Date posted: Friday 18th July
Location: Easton

Based at Easton College, near Norwich, with events in Norwich, Ely and Bury St Edmunds

The 2008 East of England Liturgical Music Course starts on the evening of Monday 4th August at Easton College with an informal reception and warm-up session. Tuesday & Wednesday will be spent in rehearsal, and on Thursday we will travel to Ely Cathedral to sing a Choral Evensong. On Friday the choir will give a lunchtime concert in St Edmundsbury Cathedral, and the weekend will be spent singing the services in Norwich Cathedral.

We will be focusing mainly on the great Anglican repertoire of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, including works by Herbert Howells, C.H.H.Parry, Charles Wood and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

There will be opportunities for semi-chorus and possibly solo work for suitably accomplished singers, which will be supported by small-group voice coaching sessions. In addition to the rehearsals for the main events, there will be a number of optional workshops and taught sessions focusing on, amongst other things, voice development, psalm singing and the impact of nineteenth century liturgical reforms.

One light meal each day is included in the course fee, as is transport to the cathedrals from Easton College. Scores & rehearsal CDs are provided well in advance. The course fee is £235. See www.liturgicalmusic.co.uk for further details.
